In Camden, South Carolina, GE Appliances opened a $70 million water heating manufacturing plant. The site will initially employ 140 people. The facility will convert steel coils into water heaters for homes across the U.S.
The plant features state-of-the-art systems for metal fabrication and welding, enameling of steel, and robotics for material handling and processing.
“Investing in U.S. manufacturing is a winning strategy for GE Appliances bringing us even closer to our customers and enabling us to serve them better,” GE Appliances President and CEO Kevin Nolan said.
Over 50 team leaders and maintenance workers finished over 5,700 hours of training in welding, mechatronics, and robotics during preparation and construction.
GE’s water heater technology includes the RealMAX gas water heater, which holds 50 gallons of water.
In the past six years, GE Appliances has invested $2 billion in its U.S. manufacturing and distribution operations. The company has also added more than 3,000 new employees.
